STA - A shortage of quality staff in Slovenian hotels amid what is a strong boom period for the sector was highlighted as a key issue at a conference of hotel managers hosted in Portorož last Thursday by the Tourism and Hospitality Chamber of Slovenia. 

STA, 22 June 2018 - Housing prices in Slovenia rose by 4.4% in the first quarter of the year compared to the final quarter of last year and by 13.4% year-on-year, the Statistics Office said on Friday. Up the most were the prices for new housing units, by 7.6% and 24.7%, respectively. 

STA, 20 June 2018 - Power distributor Elektro Ljubljana last year posted a EUR 14m net profit and made investments of EUR 33m, which is a slight improvement over 2016 and much more than planned, CEO Andrej Ribič told a press conference on Wednesday. 

STA, 20 June 2018 - Car parts maker TPV signed a deal with BMW, deemed to be the biggest in the history of Slovenia's automotive industry. The Novo Mesto-located group will become the exclusive supplier of a structural chassis element for BMW cars. The project will create about 200 new jobs and production launch is expected in a few years. 

STA, 19 June 2018 - Slovenia's exports of goods and services last year matched 82% of the country's GDP, which puts the country 7th among EU countries by exports as percentage of GDP. Imports represented nearly 73%, which ranks Slovenia 10th in the EU. 

STA, 19 June 2018 - Petrol has adopted a strategy for 2018-2022 that envisages sales revenue for the energy group to rise to EUR 5.3bn and net profit to EUR 116m by 2022. This compares to EUR 4.5bn and EUR 81.1m in 2017. Investments in fixed assets are expected to total EUR 521m in the 2018-2022 period. 

STA, 18 June 2018 - The business daily Finance expresses disagreement in Monday's editorial with regard to the inspections announced by the Financial Administration at IT companies, which are believed to be employing large numbers of workers as sole proprietors instead of signing regular labour contracts. 

STA, 14 June 2018 - The operators of the ports in Slovenia's Koper and China's Ningbo have signed an agreement on cooperation to increase trade between China and central and eastern Europe. Slovenia's Luka Koper thus officially became a part of the China-led initiative for the new Silk Road. 

STA, 13 June 2018 - Workers from Croatia will apparently get free access to the Slovenian labour market on 1 July because the parliament was dissolved before discussing the outgoing government's proposal to extend the restrictions. 

STA, 13 June 2018 - Companies in Slovenia can from now on submit electronic applications for a single permit for residence and work of foreigners in Slovenia via the business portal SPOT. The Public Administration Ministry says that this will save time and money both for the applicants and administrative units.
