STA, 4 June 2018 - Sunday's general election in Slovenia brought a clear win for the right-wing Democrats (SDS) along with a substantial fragmentation of the political landscape that heralds major coalition-building problems. Turnout after 99.7% of the votes counted is at 51.9%, 0.2 percentage points above the record low of 2014.

After the removal of Ljudmila Novak from the leadership of the NSi-Christian Democratic Party, the last strong female politician, Alenka Bratušek (SAB), now has a good chance to be ousted by a popular vote. If this happens, all of Slovenia’s leading politicians will be men , and nobody seems to mind.

STA, 1 June 2018 - The market research agency Valicon is careful not to predict the winner of Sunday's election even after its latest public opinion poll, with its boss Andraž Zorko saying that the outcome will be partly decided on Saturday at picnics, family meetings and social networks.

STA, 28 May 2018 - A police investigation in the suspected corruption surrounding the EUR 1.4bn upgrade of the Šoštanj coal-fired power station (TEŠ) has revealed that the generator no. 6 was overpaid by as much as half a billion euro, commercial broadcaster POP TV reported. Unofficially, this information will be used to reinforce the case against those responsible.

Although the party has shed nearly two points, it has increased its advantage ahead of the Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) in second place.

While left parties compete with anti-Janša rhetoric, right parties are outdoing each other with anti-refugee sentiment, he added.
