A little of what's on in and around town. 

It's the time of year when most people stay inside, keep warm and sleep early, but if you feel the need to go out then here are some things going on around town this week, just click on the names or events for more details

Christmas
See our guide to December for full details, but this week sees the St Nicholas Procession in central Ljubljana on Tuesday December 5, at 17:00, with devils, angels, cookies and candies. The Ice Fantasy rink in Kongresni trg is also open every day.

Cinema
The annual Animateka Animated Film Festival returns to Kinodvor and other sites around town for another week (December 4 to 10) of animation from around the world, with something for all ages and tastes, including events and workshops in additon to screenings.

Exhibitions
Mineralfest takes place from 8-10 December at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, a place to see and buy all kinds of minerals.

The City Museum hosts an extensive exhibition on Medieval Ljubljana until May 2, 2018

Afghanistan - Slovene Views, continues at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum and lasts until March 30, 2018.

Music
The Slovenian Radio and Television Orchestra are having a concert that includes works by Ravel and Rachmaninov, and is promoted for its performance of the Spanish Concerto de Aranjuez by J. Rodrigo. Catch them Tuesday December 5, 17:00, at Cankarjev dom.

On Thursday December 7, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting selections from Wagner at Cankarjev dom., starting at 19:30, with support from soprano Brigitte Pinter.

Gus Gus, an Icelandic electronic band, are playing Kino Šiška on Thursday, December 7, at 20:00.

Local heroes Laibach are spending two nights at Kino Šiška in their current incarnation, 21:00 Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9.

Tetkine zimske radosti clock promises a night of jugo funk, šlager, disko, beat, soul at Klub K4 on December 9, running from 23:00–5:00.

Open Mic
See local talent in the raw at Daktari, Sunday December 10, 19:00.

Laibach, some time ago

Sports
While not played in Ljubljana, on Wednesday many bars should be screening the Champions League game between Maribor NK and Sevilla, starting at 20:45 and held at Ljudski vrt, Maribor.

Saturday December 9 sees Stožice Stadium play host to Olimpija NK vs Celje, with the kick-off at 16:50.

Talks & Meetings
The Polyglot Club Ljubljana will be holding a get-together at 18:45 at Tuesday December 5 at Bobi Bar, Šiška.
