Get there and back in a day, and by bus.

Slovenia has what seems like no end of ski resorts, both big and small, that come to life in the winter months, albeit often and increasingly with the aid of man-made snow. Among these the number one all-round spot for powdery fun is probably Kranjska gora (see our guide), but for those who live in Ljubljana another name is most linked to skiing and snowboarding – Krvavec.

At around 25 km from the city, and served by a dedicated snow bus from downtown to the slopes, Krvavec offers the chance to go skiing without staying overnight, although there are plenty of options if you do want to wake up and go. It’s also the closest ski resort to any international airport in Europe, just 8 km from Brnik, if you feel the need to make a flying visit from abroad.

But it’s not just proximity that gives the resort it’s edge, as seen in the fact that Krvavec won the title of Slovenia’s Best Ski Resort, 2017, given by the World Ski Awards, and greets visitors with a full range of snow-based activities, with around 30 km of slopes and a longest run of 1.2 km. The activities on offer include a ski school, equipment rental, children’s area, snow park for stunts, slalom slopes, sledding, snow-biking and more.

Visit the resort’s site for the full list of prices and activities, as well as webcams showng the current state of play.

AT the time of writing a full-day ski pass costs 30, 27 and 16 EUR for adults, students and children. The snow bus from Ljubljana leaves at 08.00 from platform 1 at the main Bus Station, with tickets 7.2 EUR for adults and students, and 8.6 EUR for children. The snow bus from Bled leaves at 09:00 from the Penzion Mlino, then stops ast at the Panorama / Taxi,  Hotel Golf / Hotel Savica / Hotel Kompas / Hotel Lovec, Hotel Krim and the Bus Station.
