STA, 4 June 2018 - A Croatian national television reporter has assessed that a potential right-wing government built around the Democrats (SDS) as the relative winner of Sunday's election could result in a further deterioration of the relations between Slovenia and Croatia.

STA, 27 May 2018 - With exactly a week to parliamentary election, a survey by pollster Parsifal published by newsportal Nova24TV on Sunday shows the Democrats (SDS) firmly in the lead. Although the party has shed nearly two points, it has increased its advantage ahead of the Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) in second place. 

STA, 22 May 2019 - The opposition Democrats (SDS) have a strong lead in the polls less than two weeks before voting day, but as Monday's debate on POP TV showed, the party will have its work cut out putting together a coalition even if it wins. Some potential partners remain coy, others outright hostile to joining an SDS coalition. 

Two recent polls put the SDS further ahead of the field. 

STA, 11 May - Topics such as the dangers of migrations and the need to protect national identities were at the forefront as the opposition Democrats (Slovenska demokratska stranka, SDS) held their main election convention in Celje on Friday.

STA, 24 April 2018 – The chair of the parliamentary Commission for the Oversight of Intelligence and Security Services has warned that Slovenia could face a surge of migrants from Italy, implying that the most radical migrants were being shifted closer to the Slovenian border. 

The opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) are poised to become one of the strongest parties come voting day. Their bet is that voters will support an anti-migration and nativist agenda, combined with a neoliberal economic policy, a social policy that emphasises traditional family values, and the promise of fixing healthcare, transport and pensions.
