STA, March 7, 2018 – The European Commission announced on Wednesday that Slovenia had fixed its economic imbalances six years after it entered the excessive macroeconomic imbalances procedure.

Addressing the press after the release of the European Semester Winter Package review, European Commission vice-president Valdis Dombrovskis congratulated Slovenia on having strengthened the foundations of its economy and called for also tackling the remaining shortcomings.

Slovenia's EU Commissioner Violeta Bulc added the news meant "a strong message to the market, to domestic and foreign investors, that Slovenia is a stable country and a good partner for future investment".

The transport commissioner summed up the positive review for Slovenia was a result of stable economic growth, improvements in the banking sector and on the labour market. Bulc also highlighted better management of state-owned companies and the tackling of court backlogs.

Among the outstanding challenges listed by the Commission, Bulc highlighted the need to continue with measures to stabilise the financing of healthcare and pensions.
