What follows is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies, as prepared by the STA for Monday, 29 January, 2018:

DELO

Ski jumping
"The closer the Olympics, the further fly Slovenian eagles": Less than two weeks before the first Olympic competition starts, ski jumper Anže Semenič bagged his first world cup victory in Zakopane. Peter Prevc was third. (front page, 15)

Bad bank
"New hot potato for BMAC": The Bank Assets Management Company (BAMC) is in for a week of tough decisions that will affect the banking and tourism sector in Slovenia. All of them are connected to the conglomerate Sava. (front page, 3)

Palestine recognition
"Slovenians for recognition of Palestinian state": As many as 49% of respondents in the latest public opinion poll said Slovenia should recognise the Palestinian state, while 21% begged to differ. 30% were undecided. The parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee will debate the recognition of Palestine on Wednesday. (front page, 2)

"Controversial government's punishment proposal": The government's proposal to withhold child benefits from parents whose children do not attend primary school has been met with criticism, including from the Human Rights Ombudsman and the parliamentary legal service. (front page, 2, 14)

Ski jumping

Maribor's athlete of the year
"The best are in Maribor": Maribor's athlete of the year is taekwondo athlete Ivan Trajković, the best female athlete is skier Ilka Štuhec, the best male team the Maribor football team and the best female team the volleyball team Nova KBM Branik. (front page, 16)
