Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Tuesday, 24 April 2018, as prepared by the STA:

DELO

Parliament
"Without culture euro in campaign tantrums?": Parliament is to discuss a bill on securing funds for certain crucial programmes in culture, including digitalising cultural heritage and renovating the SNG Drama Ljubljana theatre building, but MPs of the coalition Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) and SocDems have already announced a walk-out. (front page, 2, 5)

Slovenian-Croatian dispute over the LB bank
"Slovenia offering mediation to Croatia": Croatian PM Andrej Plenković will come to Slovenia as part of the South-East European Cooperation Process summit. His visit comes a day after the Slovenian government asked the European Commission to mediate in the case of Yugoslav-era foreign currency deposits of the defunct LB bank. (front page, 3)

Waste management
"Waste war getting heated": The Administrative Court has ruled that the packaging waste management companies do not have to take in everything thrown out by households, which means that half of this waste could end up in in local utilities' backyards. (front page, 3)

War crimes
"The Hague: They weren't fair to me, Radovan Karadžić complains": Former leader of Bosnian Serbs Radovan Karadžić insists that the trial in which he was sentenced to 40 years in prison was unfair, and has appealed, with his lawyers urging judges to annul the verdict. (front page, 7)

Real estate
"Fund offering EUR 300,000 for improving apartments": The Ljubljana Housing Fund has drafted three public calls for applications to improve living conditions in the city. Under one of them, the fund would acquire flats from people older than 65 years and give them the use right and a monthly lump sum payment. (front page, 9)

Real estate auctions
"These are condos that will be for sale on Croatian riviera": The paper runs a list of properties that will be put to auction on the Croatian coast in May and June. Asking prices range from EUR 39,400 to EUR 150,000. (front page, 12, 13)

Debt buyers
"Why are bankruptcy debt buyers from Štajerska buying roundabouts, roads and pavements?": The Vade Mecum company is at the centre of buying parts of roads and driveways that have landed in bankruptcy estates of defunct builders. Unofficially, the company is tied to Peter Peče, a cousin of Ljubo Peče, a former boss of defunct Church holding Zvon Dve. Peče, who is in the business himself, denies the claims. (front page, 2, 3)

Acquisitions
"Rigelnik-Krivc connection at Terme Topolšica": Intus Invest, owned by Peter Krivc and Axor Holding, which according to the paper's information is tied to Matej Riglenik has published a takeover bid for spa operator Terme Topolšica. The company already has a 26% stake in the spa operator. (front page, 4, 5)

Pohorje hotels
"Fight for Pohorje hotels": The Bank Assets Management Company (BAMC) could soon sell several hotels and other properties on the Pohorje hills above Maribor as Marprom, the operator of the Pohorje ski resort, and businessman Miran Ferk are looking to buy them. (front page, 11)

Farming
"Locals worried over hops spraying": Locals in Slovenj Gradec are worried over the use of phytopharmaceuticals in hops fields near their homes. They are demanding a 300-metre buffer zone and an immediate moratorium on new fields. (front page, 13)

Welfare allowance
"Changes for elderly and pensioners": The recently passed changes that raise the basic welfare allowance to EUR 385 until the end of the year will also have consequences for older people and pensioners. Those with pensions of up to EUR 566 will be able to ask for supplements, the paper says. (front page, 2, 3)
