STA, 22 April 2018 – A man opened fire on the main beach of the coastal town of Portorož on Saturday evening, injuring a 38-year-old man and causing a scare. The police are still looking for the shooter.

According to the regional newspaper Primorske novice, the man suddenly started shooting at a group of younger men at the beach, firing several shots. He injured the 38-year-old, who took shelter at a near-by bar and is now in critical condition.

The scooting caused a scare and people immediately started running away. The shooter too fled the scene.

The police were informed of the incident at 7:30 PM last night.

According to unofficial sources of Radio Slovenija, the incident was a mafia shooting, involving criminals from Ljubljana.

The Koper investigators, who are still looking for the shooter, told the STA today that they had no new information about the incident.

The injured man, who was first rushed to the closest hospital in Izola and then transferred to the Ljubljana hospital, is reportedly an old acquaintance of the police.
