Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Friday, 20 April 2018, as prepared by the STA:

Parties
"She wanted to take the party to one more election": The paper runs an interview with the former head of the centre-right New Slovenia (NSi) Ljudmila Novak, who will be succeeded on Saturday by Matej Tonin. (front page, 2)

Space industry
"Slovenia conquering space": The Vesolje-SI centre of excellence and three companies have set up a station capturing data from satellites. In the future, they will also be getting data from a Slovenian satellite, which will be taken to the orbit by the Vega rocket. (front page, 9)

DNEVNIK

Border arbitration
"Aunt with cookies comes only once": The questions about relocation of 12 Slovenian families who have been left on the Croatian side of the border in Istria with the arbitration decision are too intimate to get honest answers, the paper notes as Dnevnik journalists visited the area. (front page, 4)

New Cuban president
"System remains, but changes are coming nonetheless": Cuba has a new president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, a 57-year-old career politician. The very fact that the president is not named Castro is a huge news on the Communist island. (front page, 7)

Workplace safety dispute
"Huge debt of the Foreign Ministry to former ambassador": A court has ruled that the state needs to pay EUR 52,000 in damages to Blanka Jamnišek, the former permanent representative of Slovenia to the UN, OSCE and other international organisations in Vienna, who almost died in 2013 in a malfunctioning elevator. "Slovenian takeover fever": The paper analyses takeovers, the ensuing risks and further takeover targets in Slovenia. It adds that takeovers are no longer financed only with loans, but also through partnerships and cash. (front page, 2-3)

"Moody's thinking about lowering credit rating": Bloomberg has reported that ratings agency Moody's is thinking about lowering the credit rating of the NLB bank because the state is procrastinating with the privatisation. (front page, 6)

Defence
"Arms have the advantage": After eight years of stagnation, the state is planning to increase the defence budget by 50% by 2023 and creating one of the two planned battalion-sized battle groups, which will be based on new 8-wheel armoured personnel carriers Boxer. (front page, 2-3)

New Cuban president
"Diaz-Canel after the Castros": Only a year before the 60th anniversary of the Cuban revolution, Miguel Diaz-Canel was sworn in yesterday as the first president not named Castro. (front page, 7)
