More Slovenes Now Travel For Pleasure, Croatia Most Popular Foreign Destination

STA, 2 June 2018 - Around 1,152,000 persons or 66% of the total population of Slovenia aged 15 years or older went on at least one private trip last year. They went on around 4,288,000 private trips all together, which is 6% more than in 2016, the Statistics Office has reported. 

Two-fifths of all private trips were made in Slovenia, while the most visited country was Croatia (64% of all private trips made abroad), followed by Italy (7%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (5%) and Austria (5%).

Private trips involved on average 4.5 overnight stays (2.7 overnight stays in Slovenia and 5.6 abroad). Travellers spent on average around EUR 46 per day (EUR 38 in Slovenia, and EUR 49 abroad).

Around 197,000 or 11% of the Slovenian population aged 15 years or older went on at least one business or study trip last year. They went on around 537,000 business trips all together, which is 4% more than in 2016.

Some 17% of business trips were made in Slovenia, while business trips abroad were mostly made in Germany (22% of business trips abroad).

Business trips involved on average 2.8 overnight stays (1.9 overnight stays in Slovenia and 3 abroad). Business travellers spent on average around EUR 205 per day (EUR 135 in Slovenia, and EUR 214 abroad).
