STA, 7 May 2018 - The Russia Fan House was officially opened on Monday at the Russian Scientific and Cultural Centre (Ruski center znanosti in kulture, RCZK) in Ljubljana. The venue will provide group viewings of the key matches at the summer football World Cup in Russia, while it will also organise short Russian language classes.

The opening at the centre, located close to Prešeren square, was also attended by Russian Ambassador Doku Zavgayev, Slovenian Football Association head Radenko Mijatović and Damir Skomina, the Slovenian that is part of FIFA's referee roster at the upcoming World Cup.

Zavgayev revealed in his address that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been monitoring the preparations for the World Cup very closely. Putin recently hosted "a meeting with all organisers, who stressed that everything is ready and at a very high level."

Mijatović pointed out that Slovenia and Russia had been celebrating their friendship each year at the Russian Chapel on the Vršič pass in Slovenia.

"The Slovenian team will unfortunately not play in Russia, but our referees, starting with Damir Skomina, will be there, which is something we're very proud of," the football official added.
