Ljubljana is clean and green, but as anyone who does the housework knows, a place doesn’t stay in shape by itself, much less a city or a river.

One event that keeps Slovenia’s capital so nice is the annual spring clean of the Ljubljanica, which takes place this coming Saturday, April 21, as part of the city’s regular "For a Beautiful Ljubljana" campaign. This will see a team of divers, firefighters, fishermen, environmentalists, boats, rescuers and others moving from Špica to the Dragon Bridge, and if you want to help from the start then the place to be is Trnovski pristan embankment at 09:00 (pictured above, and shown in the map below). There will also be many activities, cultural and otherwise, held along the riverbanks, so even if you don’t help with the cleaning you can come out and enjoy the experience.

And if you’re curious about the trash that lurks at the bottom of the river, then you can visit Čevljarski / Shoemaker’s / Cobblers Bridge at the end of the day, where this year’s haul will be displayed.
