STA, March 12, 2018 – Slovenia exported goods worth EUR 2.39bn and imported merchandise worth EUR 2.35bn in January, which makes a rise of 13.6% and 12.5%, respectively, compared with the same month a year ago, official figures show.
According to a report from the Statistics Office, the country recorded an external trade surplus for the 5th consecutive year in January, at EUR 36.7m. The export-import ratio was 101.6%.
The surplus was generated in trade with EU member states. Merchandise exports there rose by 15.1% year-on-year to EUR 1.9bn, while imports increased by 7.8% to EUR 1.8bn. At EUR 66.3m, the surplus was the highest in the past two years.
Slovenia's exports to non-EU countries were up 8.2% to EUR 0.5bn as imports surged by 32.2% to EUR 0.5bn. The latter increase is due to one large transaction in the power-generating machinery and equipment group.
