STA, 4 July 2018 - The north-eastern Pomurje region will get EUR 41.2m in development funds for 19 projects worth a total of EUR 53.5m under an agreement signed by the Pomurje Development Council and the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology on Wednesday.

Just over EUR 33m in incentive funds will go for the construction of two water supply systems. The ministry earmarked EUR 5.3m for eight projects focusing on entrepreneurship promotion and business infrastructure.

Nine different projects dedicated to the construction of a cycling network will get a total of EUR 2.8m.

Development Council president Branko Drvarič said that this step marked the start of a new era and expressed hope that all projects would be carried out as planned.

He added that the region had hoped for more funds, as Pomurje continues to lag behind other regions in development. Many people in Pomurje decide to find work abroad, a problem the government must be aware of, he said.
