It is one of the more unlikely tourism success stories in Croatia, the emergence of a significant tourism market almost overnight for Croatia. The numbers speak for themselves. Back in 2011, there were just 16,000 South Korean tourists visiting Croatia, a number which has not risen to close to 400,000 annually in just a few years, with direct flights between Seoul and Zagreb scheduled for this year.
The reason is due to an effective promotion of Croatia in South Korea, but not of the traditional kind. Ever since the filming of a reality show called The Romantic, about 10 young single Koreans looking for love in a romantic country in Europe called Croatia, the Koreas cannot get enough of the country, and Korean tourism is the fastest growing segment of Croatian tourism.
Could the same be about to happy in Slovenia? It appears so, with the recent filming of a Korean show called Black Night in Slovenia - see an episode trailer below.
“We already had positive results after the broadcast of previous TV series, since all of our most well-known destinations saw an increase in the number of South Korean guests in 2017. South Koreans were even the most numerous visitors to Bled Castle,” explains Janez Bertoncelj from the Miceurope agency to RTL Slo in a recent interview. He had worked with a group of South Koreans who were shooting scenes for the series Black Knight in late October and early November. Read the full interview here.
