Royal Bled (website) earned the honour from the World of Leading Golf after a long period of testing the quality and visitor satisfaction.

According to the CEO of the World of Leading Golf, Claus Feldt, Royal Bled was rewarded for the high quality of service, excellent golf course and the fact that golfers rated it as worth a revisit.

The World Leading Golf list includes world-renowned golf courses such as the Le Golf National near Paris, which hosted the Ryder Cup this September, and the Celtic Manor Resort in Scotland, where Europe and the US competed in 2010.

The country with the most golf courses on the list is Germany, boasting nine courses. Spain comes second with eight courses and the UK third with six. Switzerland has five, and Portugal and Italy have four each.

"The award is a great recognition for Royal Bled's successful work so far and an encouragement for the future," said the head of the Royal Bled golf course, Aljoša Berc.

Several other awards were also handed out at the end of this year's IGTM, the biggest event in the industry, which was attended by some 1,200 officials from more than 60 countries in the past three days.

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators, the global trade organisation for the industry, has picked Scottsdale in the US, the Dominican Republic, Spain's Costa Del Sol, Mauritius and Hua Hin in the Asian region as the 2018 top destinations.

The award for the most promising golf destination, which Slovenia won in 2015, went to the Spanish province of La Rioja.

The top resorts of 2018 are Gleneagles in Scotland, Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Canada and Mission Hills in China.

The most environmentally friendly golf courses are Italy's Gardagolf, Jack's Point in New Zealand, Al Mouj in Oman and Portuguese Vidago Palace.
