From August 16 until February 15, 2019 visitors to Ljubljana will have a chance to see a collection of gold items from the Imperial Treasury of the Ming dynasty, from the reign of the Wanli Emperor (1573–1620), which rarely leave Beijing and are being shown in Slovenia for the first time.

The exhibition, which includes 145 pieces, is on show at the National Museum, and features items such as jewellery, golden tableware and flower baskets and vases. Many of the objects have markings which show they contain a pure gold content of between 80% and 90%, and that they were made or finished in 1601.

The items come from the Dong Bo Zhai collection of the Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts in Xi'an, and in return the National Museum will set up next year in China an exhibition of porcelain and prehistoric ceramics.

The Museum is open from 10:00 to 18:00, and stays open until 20:00 on Thursday. Unlike many other public museums and galleries, it's not closed on Mondays. Tickets are €8 for adults, €4 for reduced tickets, and €12 for a family ticket. The National Museum (Narodni muzej Slovenije) can be found at Muzejska ulica 1, 1000 Ljubljana, and the website for the show can be found here.
