With the Overjam International Reggae Festival packed up it’s the turn of another event and subculture to take over Sotočje, near Tolmin, and its riverside “beaches” – Metaldays and the heavy metal crew. The week-long party officially runs from July 22 to 28, although the first performances are on Friday 21 and the last ones on Friday 27. The headline act, appearing Thursday, is Judas Priest, but visitors can also enjoy Behemoth, Children of Bodom, Accept, Kataklysm, Soulfly and at least 130 other bands (with the full line-up here).

The organisers expect around 12,000 fans, and in addition to the music there’s a full program of other activities to keep people happy, including yoga to loosen your limbs and unlock your kundalini before or after an energetic romp in the mosh pit, as well as massage and fitness sessions, so you go home in better condition than you arrived. Food and drink will also be available, as will activities for children.
Since the festival takes place in an area of outstanding natural beauty and famed cleanliness, it’s important to note that the organisers are members of the Eko iniciativa and, as they state on the website “we are trying to work as much as possible in ecologically acceptable ways and in accordance with ecological guidelines; our waste is being separated, we are using ecological toilet paper and towels wherever possible, our tent pegs are made of biodegradable materials that are environmentally acceptable and we will continue to improve our ecological mission also in the future.”
