The news of the court's ruling was announced by Bovec Mayor Valter Mlekuž as he addressed the second evening of the festival at which the Cuban dancers performed on Friday.
Mlekuš along with the Slovenia-Cuba Friendship Association, the Social Democrats (SD) and the Left had been calling for a reasonable solution, given that the group, which was unable to pay the fine, was at risk of not being able to return home on Wednesday as scheduled.
The Cubans were fined as part of a border control campaign conducted by the police, the Financial Administration and other inspection services, according to Nova Gorica police.
According to the news portal of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija, the folk dance group, which came to Slovenia from Italy, was stopped by the police after having had lunch in Bovec.
At that point the head of the group realised that he had forgotten a bag with all of their passports at their hotel in Italy's Tarcento, where they performed at the international folklore festival Dei Cuori.
Although members of the festival crew brought the Cubans' passports to Bovec within an hour after they had been stopped by the police, they had already been fined. Moreover, the police seized their passports until the fines were paid.
Despite having been detained that day, the group still performed at the Bovec festival in the evening.
