STA, 10 July 2018 - A 27-year-old American paraglider and a 33-year-old citizen of Slovakia who was learning how to kayak lost their lives in the Soča River area today.

The American was discovered dead in north-west of Tolmin in the afternoon after he had taken off as the last in a group of seven paragliders from the Kobala take-off site. It is not clear yet why he plummeted to the ground.

While a 53-year-old Polish paraglider also sustained serious injuries east of Tolmin today, another deadly accident was reported further upstream of the Soča river near the Kal-Koritnica village.

The Slovak who lost his life had been riding in the company of two more kayakers and the guide. After his boat suddenly turned around it got caught in a tree branch. The 33-year-old died despite resuscitation attempts.
