The fourth fire downtown Ljubljana this month.

July 6, 2018

An abandoned building at Metelkova caught fire at 21:28 Thursday night. The fire fighters of Ljubljana Fire Brigade managed to put out the fire that had spread across 100 square metres of the rooftop of the building. Nobody was hurt, however about 200 visitors to a nearby concert at the Metelkova Gala Hala summer garden had to be evacuated.

Not even one month has passed since the last fire at Metelkova, when the popular Jalla Jalla club burnt down in an act of arson. Besides, a week ago a city bus burnt down in the middle of Slovenska street, in open view of the nearby tourists, and only two days ago firefighters spent much of the day putting out the fire on the roof of the Grand Union Hotel at Miklošičeva street.

Luckily, nobody was hurt in all of these fires, although the material damage is quite significant, and the firefighting brigade will hopefully now rest.

Ironically, just about two blocks away from the yesterday's intervention, at about the same time, the Ana Desetnica festival was presenting a spectacular fire show at the playground of the Tabor Hostel. Luckily the fire didn't escape the show, although the firefighters were guarding the scene with care.
