STA, 29 July - Fish and shells from the Slovenian sea are safe for consumption, shows an analysis of chemical pollutants in sea fish and shells sampled in 2017 and the first half of 2018, the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection has told the STA.

Inspectors last year took eleven samples of large sea fish (fresh, refrigerated and frozen) from the Slovenian part of the Adriatic Sea. They were analysed for dioxin, furan and mercury.

They also took three samples of farmed sea fish from the Seča farm for an analysis on the presence of metals - mercury, cadmium and lead.

An analysis was also made of mussels from Slovenian mussel farms, with all samples passing the standards under the EU regulation on general principles and requirements of food law as safe for consumption.

Eight of the ten samples taken in the first half of 2018 are also safe for consumption. The results fro the remaining two examples are now known yet.
