STA, 17 May 2018 - Slovenia's biggest boat show, Internautica, will open at Marina Portorož on Thursday, presenting more than 200 vessels and some 350 exhibitors. At least half of the exhibitors will be from abroad, with a special focus on the nautical industry of Sicily.

According to Internautica head Jurij Korenc, the fair will present several vessels for the first time, and host a number of events and presentations, debates, a SUP contest, and a vintage boat regatta until the end of the week.

This year, the event will raise awareness about plastic waste. A number of presentations, texts and film screenings will highlight the severity of the situation, Jadran Klinec of the Slovenian Maritime Administration has said.

As part of the initiative Adopt a Piece of Slovenian Coast, young people will be encouraged to minimise the use of plastic and to recycle.

According to Korenc, the fair has been listed among the official partner projects of the European Commission because of its contents promoting environmentally-friendly and sustainable technologies.

As in the past few years, Internautica will host the SUP Challenge competition, at which 70-100 participants are expected.
